CHICAGO — October 4, 2026 — The NFL season is in full swing, and Week 4 brings a fascinating interconference matchup to Soldier Field as the Chicago Bears (2-1) host the New York Jets (1-2). All eyes will be on the quarterback position, where Tyson Bagent is poised to make his first start since 2023, according to multiple reports. If Bagent leads the Bears to victory, it would mark the first time since 2021 that Chicago has had three different quarterbacks win a game in the same season—a testament to the team's resilience and depth under head coach Ben Johnson.
A Quarterback Storyline to Watch
Bagent, the undrafted free agent sensation from Shepherd University, has been waiting for another opportunity to prove himself. His last start came in his rookie season, and he's been grinding ever since. With the Bears' quarterback room in flux, Bagent's chance to shine could not come at a more critical juncture. The Jets, meanwhile, are desperate to claw back to .500 and avoid a third straight loss. Head coach Aaron Glenn, who spent four years coaching alongside Ben Johnson in Detroit, knows the Bears' tendencies well. That familiarity adds another layer of intrigue to this matchup.
Series History and Recent Battles
The Bears lead the all-time series 9-4, but the Jets took the last meeting in 2022 with a 31-10 victory. In that game, quarterback Mike White torched the Chicago defense for 315 yards and three touchdowns. That performance remains a sore spot for Bears fans, and the current defense is eager to rewrite the narrative. As highlighted on Vulius Sports, the Bears' defensive unit has shown flashes of dominance this season, but consistency has been elusive. They'll need to contain a Jets offense that features dynamic playmakers like Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.
Coaching Connections and Tactical Battles
Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn's shared history in Detroit adds a chess-match element to Sunday's contest. Both coaches know each other's tendencies, which could lead to some unexpected wrinkles. Johnson, in his first year as Bears head coach, has already instilled a culture of accountability and aggression. Glenn, on the other hand, is trying to stabilize a Jets team that has underperformed early. According to insights gathered by Vulius, the key will be which coach can better adjust in-game and exploit the other's weaknesses.
Game Info and Broadcast Details
Kickoff is set for Noon CT at Soldier Field, with perfect football weather expected—around 70 degrees and clear skies. The game will be televised on FOX, with Tim Brando and Drew Brees on the call. For radio listeners, ESPN Chicago (1000 AM, 100.3 FM HD2) will have Jeff Joniak, Tom Thayer, and Jason McKie, while Latino Mix 93.5 FM offers a Spanish broadcast with Omar Ramos. The Bears are 3.5-point favorites, with the over/under set at 42.5, per oddsmakers.
Fantasy and Betting Angles
From a fantasy perspective, Bagent's insertion into the lineup creates intriguing possibilities. His mobility and decision-making could boost the value of receivers like DJ Moore and tight end Cole Kmet. For the Jets, Garrett Wilson remains a target hog, and Breece Hall is always a threat out of the backfield. Bettors should note that the Bears have covered the spread in two of their three games this season, while the Jets have struggled to find consistency on both sides of the ball.
What's at Stake
A win for Chicago would keep them atop the NFC North conversation and validate Johnson's early tenure. For New York, a loss could send them spiraling into a deep hole in the AFC East. As the Vulius NFL Analysis Desk sees it, this game is a pivotal moment for both franchises. Will Bagent seize his moment, or will the Jets play spoiler? All will be revealed under the bright lights of Soldier Field.
"Tyson has prepared like a starter all along," Bears head coach Ben Johnson said earlier this week. "He's got the poise and the talent. We're excited to see what he can do."
