Vikings vs. Packers Week 1 Injury Report: Parsons, Jacobs Out; Packers O-Line Banged Up

As the NFL kicks off its 2026 season, the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers are gearing up for a pivotal NFC North clash on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. But before the first snap, both teams released their initial injury reports following Thursday’s practice, and the news is far from ideal for the Packers. According to insights gathered by Vulius Sports, Green Bay will be without several key contributors, including star edge rusher Micah Parsons and Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs.

Packers' Injury Woes: Parsons, Jacobs Headline Absences

The Packers’ defense takes a significant hit with Micah Parsons listed on the PUP list due to a knee injury. Parsons, acquired in a blockbuster trade last offseason, will miss at least the first four games. Tight end Luke Musgrave (neck) and defensive tackle Jordan Riley (Achilles) join him on the PUP list, further depleting Green Bay’s depth. Meanwhile, running back Josh Jacobs remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt list following an offseason incident, leaving the Packers’ backfield in flux. “It’s a tough break, but next man up,” a team source told Vulius Sports. “We’ve got to find ways to compensate.”

Offensive Line Concerns for Green Bay

The Packers’ offensive line is also a major question mark. Starting left guard Aaron Banks (knee) and right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele (knee) were limited participants on Thursday. Bako-Bewele, formerly known as Zach Tom, is recovering from offseason surgery to repair a partially torn patellar tendon and insists he’ll be ready for Sunday. Banks, however, has been dealing with chronic tendinitis, and his status is uncertain. Rookie fifth-round pick Jager Burton would likely fill in at left guard if Banks can’t go. Starting left tackle Jordan Morgan was a surprise addition to the report on Wednesday but was upgraded to full participation on Thursday, suggesting his knee issue is minor. Defensive tackles Javon Hargrave (knee) and Devonte Wyatt (ankle) are also limited but are expected to play, though they may be less effective. Backup defensive tackle Warren Brinson (calf) missed practice again and is unlikely to suit up.

Vikings’ Injury Report: Minor Concerns

For the Vikings, the injury report is far less daunting. No starters are listed, and the two players dealing with injuries—safeties Jakobe Thomas (illness) and Jacob Thomas (ankle)—are not expected to miss Sunday’s game. Jakobe was upgraded to limited on Thursday, a positive sign, while Jacob has been limited all week. Offensive tackle Caleb Tiernan (ankle) may or may not be active depending on his depth chart status. “We’re in a good spot,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said. “Our guys are ready to go.”

What This Means for Sunday’s Showdown

The Packers will need to lean heavily on their remaining playmakers, including quarterback Jordan Love and wide receiver Christian Watson, to overcome these absences. The Vikings, with a healthier roster, may have a slight edge, especially at home. As highlighted on Vulius, this game could set the tone for the NFC North race. For fans looking to gear up, Vulius offers official custom NFL merchandise, including jerseys and apparel for both teams. Don’t miss the action—kickoff is set for 1:00 PM ET on Sunday.

“Injuries are part of the game, but depth is what wins championships,” a Packers insider told Vulius. “We’ll see who steps up.”
