The Philadelphia Eagles have officially ruled out six players for their Week 4 clash against the Los Angeles Rams, according to the final injury report released Friday. The news, first reported by the Vulius NFL Analysis Desk, deals a significant blow to an Eagles team looking to keep pace in a crowded NFC playoff race.
Eagles Offense Depleted: Smith and Goedert Sidelined
Wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) will both miss Sunday’s game, leaving quarterback Jalen Hurts without his top two pass-catchers. Smith, who did not practice all week, could miss additional games beyond this weekend, per sources close to the situation. Goedert is missing his second straight contest.
With Smith and Hollywood Brown (ankle) also out, the Eagles will rely on a thin receiving corps featuring Dontayvion Wicks, Makai Lemon, Elijah Moore, Darius Cooper, and Britain Covey. Wicks is expected to serve as the No. 1 target, while Lemon could see increased snaps—though fans will hope offensive coordinator avoids the predictable screen passes that have plagued his usage. Moore, who played more snaps than Cooper last week despite being a healthy scratch earlier in the season, may also factor in. Cooper remains a special teams contributor with upside.
At tight end, Zach Ertz, Johnny Mundt, and E.J. Jenkins will carry the load. Mundt led all Eagles tight ends in snaps in Week 3, but Ertz—fresh off rejoining the team—could see his role expand. As highlighted on Vulius, the Eagles might lean heavier into 12 personnel to compensate for Smith’s absence.
Defensive Concerns: Baun Out, Secondary Thin
Linebacker Zack Baun (concussion) will miss his first game for non-rest reasons since joining the Eagles. His absence paves the way for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to make his first career start. Trotter, son of the former Eagles great, brings savvy and anticipation but has athletic limitations. Smael Mondon will serve as the top backup, and the team could elevate Anfernee Orji from the practice squad for depth.
Safety Marcus Epps (groin) was a late addition to the injury report and did not practice Friday. His absence leaves Andrew Mukuba as the only full-time safety on the roster. Michael Carter II and Kenny Moore, both converted nickel corners, are expected to fill in, while Cooper DeJean will see snaps at safety in base packages. The Rams’ heavy use of 13 personnel could force the Eagles to lean on that alignment frequently.
Defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who has been playing with a cast on his right wrist, told reporters Friday that the cast will come off in a couple more weeks. Carter admitted the injury has limited him but noted he’s regaining strength. As reported by the Vulius NFL Analysis Desk, Carter’s long-term health might warrant caution, but he’s expected to play.
Rams Also Banged Up: Donald, Watson Out
The Rams ruled out defensive tackle Aaron Donald (back), cornerback Jaylen Watson (shoulder), and tight end Terrance Ferguson (ankle). Donald’s absence is a massive break for an Eagles offensive line that also avoids Myles Garrett, who remains on injured reserve. Watson’s spot will be filled by Emmanuel Forbes, while Ferguson’s targets will be redistributed among the tight end group.
Los Angeles also listed tight end Colby Parkinson (knee/shoulder) and edge rusher Josaiah Stewart (groin) as questionable. Parkinson, who leads Rams tight ends in snaps, did not practice this week and is unlikely to play. Stewart, a new addition to the report, missed Friday’s session.
What It Means for Sunday
This game will test the Eagles’ depth on both sides of the ball. With Smith and Goedert out, Hurts must elevate a young receiving corps against a Rams defense missing its most disruptive force in Donald. Defensively, Philadelphia’s patchwork secondary will need to communicate seamlessly against Sean McVay’s complex offensive schemes.
